COLORADO HOSPITAL MEDICINE
During a hospital stay, it’s important to know who among all the nurses, doctors, and other staff members will handle your care. Kaiser Permanente Colorado members and their loved ones can take comfort in knowing that we are with you at every moment of your stay. Our hospital medicine doctors, or “hospitalists,” are internal medicine doctors who specialize in taking care of you from check-in to discharge.
What we do
Our team’s doctors act as your primary care providers while you are in the hospital. They work with nurses, therapists, pharmacists, and other specialists to give you the attentive care you need. They’ll also use your electronic medical record to let your primary care provider know what was done in the hospital and what your follow-up care needs are.
Questions about your health?

Connected care
Our hospitalists not only communicate with your regular primary care provider or specialist, but they coordinate your care with providers at other facilities that might become involved in your care, such as when you are transferred between hospitals for a special surgery or are discharged to a rehabilitation facility.
The hospitalists also coordinate care with service providers, specialized care coordinators, skilled nursing facility physicians, pharmacists, or nurse practitioners and doctors who provide in-home visits. We give you the long-term care plans you need to recover successfully after you leave the hospital.
The way we practice medicine at Kaiser Permanente gives us the freedom to focus on care, rather than running a business. We are free to practice medicine the way it is supposed to be practiced — with a focus on providing expert, compassionate care to you.
Every member of your care team is here to support you through your journey. When you have excellent doctors, truly connected care teams, advanced technology, and the right partners, you can expect great results.
Each year, Kaiser Permanente doctors are recognized as top doctors by their peers and publications such as 5280 magazine. Some have joined us from top-ranked academic training programs and successful private practices. Others have been honored for their invaluable contributions to medical advancements and new surgical techniques that help patients heal quickly and with less pain.
Our hospital partners have a track record of success and are often recognized as regional or national centers of excellence for their specialties. We also partner with national organizations, contributing to large, cutting-edge, research projects.
