What we do

Your Kaiser Permanente team of oncologists, radiologists, surgeons, pharmacists, and supportive care staff provide comprehensive care based on your individual needs. And you will be part of all treatment decisions. Screening early is key to catching cancer at a state where treatments are less invasive and cure rates are higher. We are a leader for early detection. Year after year, Kaiser Permanente Colorado earns top cancer-screening scores from the National Committee for Quality Assurance.

Innovation

The fight against cancer can only be won if we work together to discover and develop new treatments. Our Colorado Institute for Health Research has more than 100 staff members, including 15 investigators, who lead studies aimed at improving health outcomes.

In addition to being at the forefront of groundbreaking medicine, we’re a leader in clinical trials that have led to new, effective ways to help prevent, detect and treat cancer, including:

  • A new therapy for lung cancer patients that trains their immune system to attack cancer cells directly
  • Frequent text message reminders to help women with breast cancer keep up their daily medicine regimen

We also have a variety of pharmaceutical-sponsored trials that offer exciting new treatments that are not yet approved by the Food and Drug Administration. Kaiser Permanente doctors work to match select patients with the right trial for the best outcome.

We bring advanced tools and techniques to treatment, such as minimally invasive procedures to reduce scarring from thyroid cancer surgery, and a new technique that reduces lung cancer recovery time from three months to six weeks and reduces hospital stays by several days. An equally important part of fighting cancer is finding it as early as possible, which is why we emphasize cancer screenings. In fact, Kaiser Permanente Colorado is among the highest-performing plans in the state for colorectal cancer screenings, and the National Cancer Institute recently awarded us $32 million to continue improving cancer screening rates.

Who we are

We are Colorado’s largest multispecialty medical practice and one of the largest cancer centers in the state. We are board-certified medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgeons, gynecologic oncologists, and other providers. Many specialize in the treatment of certain types of cancer, such as brain or prostate cancer. Many of our cancer surgeons are also experts in specific types of surgery, such as lung or breast cancer surgery.

Our cancer care team operates out of three medical offices in the north, central, and south Denver area, and our core hospitals are certified by the Commission on Cancer. Our outpatient oncology practices participate in the American Society of Clinical Oncology Practice Initiative. Search our Permanente doctors.

Connected care

All of our cancer care doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and other providers are connected to each other — and you — through your electronic medical record. They work as a team at every step of your treatment. Our specialists meet regularly to discuss complex cases and treatment options, and they are in regular contact with your primary care provider too.

The way we practice medicine at Kaiser Permanente gives us the freedom to focus on care, rather than running a business. We are free to practice medicine the way it is supposed to be practiced — with a focus on providing expert, compassionate care to you.

Every member of your care team is here to support you through your cancer journey. When you have excellent doctors, truly connected care teams, advanced technology, and the right partners, you can expect great results.

Each year, Kaiser Permanente doctors are recognized as top doctors by their peers and publications such as 5280 magazine. Some have joined us from top-ranked academic training programs and successful private practices. Others have been honored for their invaluable contributions to medical advancements and new surgical techniques that help patients heal quickly and with less pain.

Our hospital partners have a track record of success and are often recognized as regional or national centers of excellence for their specialties. We also partner with national organizations, contributing to large, cutting-edge, research projects.
